South Korea, separated from North Korea at the end of World War II, and economically devastated by 35 years as a Japanese colony and 3 years of the Korean War, is today a vibrant democracy, and an economic powerhouse with a high standard of living. One of the “Little Tigers of Asia,” South Korea has built a world class economy based on high technology, automobiles and appliances, and consumer goods.  Korea is ethnically fairly homogeneous, with large Christian and Buddhist communities and with many people also adhering to traditional Shamanic ways. It is still a very Confucian nation, with stress on education and family values and patriarchy.  Korea has a long and glorious history and is proud of a number of inventions, including its Hangul alphabet of 28 letters, considered the most efficient in the world.  For more information on South Korea, please click on the above buttons.
