Cambodia is a country which has a glorious ancient history as the Khmer kingdom from the 8th to the 15th centuries, which has left the wonderful ruins best known as Angkor Wat. It was a relatively peaceful French colony for 100 years, and is recently recovering from a violent rule by the Khmer Rouge which saw the death of 2 million Cambodians and the creation of a virtual slave state in an attempt to create a Maoist agrarian nation.  Like its neighbors, Thailand and Laos, it is a Theravada Buddhist country with many reminders of its Hindu and Buddhist past.  For more details on Cambodia, please click on the above buttons.
